Our approach

Wonder, with
responsibility.

Fish Are Friends helps freshwater keepers understand the world they are creating—and the animals living in it.

Make the hobby more understandable

An aquarium is a living habitat. Our purpose is to make its care less confusing: explain unfamiliar concepts, connect equipment decisions to animal needs, and encourage good observation.

We focus on freshwater aquariums. Our clownfish mascot is part of the Fish Are Friends identity; clownfish themselves are marine fish and do not belong in a freshwater tank.

Put welfare before a purchase

We encourage planning, fishless cycling, compatible stocking, and routines that people can sustain. We discuss preventable losses without promising that every illness or death can be avoided. We do not publish an unverified first-year dropout percentage.

How to read these guides

Articles are original educational summaries with links to relevant animal-welfare, veterinary, and specialist resources. Sources are supplied for further reading and do not imply those organizations endorse this site. Guide update dates identify our editorial revisions.

There is no claim that this content has been reviewed by a veterinarian. Species-specific research and qualified advice matter, particularly for illness, unusual water conditions, or specialist setups.

Recommendations and commercial links

No active Amazon affiliate links are included at launch. If commercial links are introduced, their relationship will be disclosed near the relevant recommendations. A product will not be described as hands-on tested unless that testing actually occurred.
